Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,244 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On June 9 at Hancock State Prison, an offender was found with 7 small bundles of unknown contraband after his visit with civilian Joy Foskey. After she consented to a of her person and vehicle, security staff discovered 2 types of unknown medication, 3 small bags of a white substance and a crack pipe. Foskey was arrested and transported to the Hancock County Jail.

On June 8 at Autry State Prison, security staff searched the restroom and discovered 7 vacuum sealed bags containing 12 cell phones, 6 cell phone charges, 7 bags containing an unknown amount of tobacco, a pair of headphones and an unknown amount of rolling papers. Civilians Nicole Queen and Olivia Rice were arrested by the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department.

On June 8 at Wilcox State Prison, security staff contacted the Abbeville Police Department and the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office after receiving a tip a suspicious person was near the facility. Civilian Corey Parrot was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department after he was found near the facility with a black backpack that contained 8 bundles of unknown contraband.

On June 6 at Valdosta State Prison, the canine unit alerted to a vehicle as it entered the facility. During a vehicle search, security staff discovered a small amount of marijuana. Civilians Linda Alonzo and Dominique Solo and cadet Maria Gonzalez were arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department.
