New Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Named at Lee Arrendale State Prison
Julie Yeargin promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Julie Yeargin from Chief Counselor at Whitworth Women’s Facility, to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment a Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP), effective January 1, 2018. As Deputy Warden, Yeargin will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of over 1,400 female offenders.
“Julie’s willingness to learn, along with her hard work, and devotion to the Department is evident in how she has continued to be promoted within her facility,” said Commissioner Dozier. “Having started as a Correctional Officer, Julie will have so much to offer LASP in her new position.”
Yeargin began her career with the GDC in 2013 as a Correctional Officer at Whitworth Women’s Facility. She was then promoted to Behavioral Health Counselor II in 2013 and Behavioral Health Counselor III in 2016. The following year Yeargin was promoted to Chief Counselor at Whitworth Women’s Facility, where she currently serves.
Yeargin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Augusta State University and is a licensed Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC-II). She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Counselor Training (BCT), Basic Management Training (BMT), and Supervision 1, 2, & 3. Yeargin has served as an ACA Coordinator, STG Coordinator, SART Team Leader, OJT Coordinator, Administrative Segregation Counselor, and Classification Chairperson.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
