Counseling

Mission

To provide the necessary support to staff working in facilities that manages GDC offenders. The counseling unit accomplishes this by:

  • Coordinating quarterly training for Counselors and Counselor Supervisors;
  • Establishing a set of well-written policies outlining methodolgies consistent with the "What Works" (Principles of Effecitve Intervention) theories of correctional programming;
  • Providing onsite evaluationa for all entities managing GDC offenders and providing substantive written and verbal feedback.

Vision

  • Help reduce recidivism by changing criminal thinking and reducing criminal behavior, while providing legally mandated and social learning programs
  • Prepare offenders to accept responsibility for their behavior and lead a productive, crime-free lives
  • Prepare offenders to accept social and civic responsibilities as crime-free citizens within their community
